Wondering if there's much hope....

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 7:18 PM
Got my yules today (i only ordered three) and i am a bit disappointed in Now Winter Nights Enlarge. It is WHOA caramel on me (and in the bottle for that matter). Anyone have experience with other blends containing a caramel note? Does it tend to mellow with age? I only put a tiny dab on my inner arm, and it was almost nauseating how caramel-y it was. Thoughts?

Jewish forums online

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 6:22 PM
Are there any popular, general interest Jewish forums in English online? There must be, but I can't for the life of me find any. I'm looking for something like www.lds.net/forums or forums.catholic.com, with Jews of varying levels of observation and interested outsiders discussing doctrine, social issues, politics, etc., but all I can find are forums for Jewish singles in greater Indianapolis or forums that get one post every two weeks. Although the Mormon and Catholic forums are, what I'm looking for needn't be sponsored or hosted by any particular branch of Judaism, of course. Thanks!

Newbie question!

  • Nov. 14th, 2009 at 5:46 PM
Hey guys! I'm new, so I'm hope I'm doin' it right. I have a question, and I figured this would be the best place to ask.

I recently got frimped some kind of partial decant of a blend I've never heard of. The label lists the name and the notes, but not the company, and I'd like to know who produced it. The name of the oil is "May I Give," and the notes are listed as "Gardenia, golden frankincense, white peach, ginger blossom, tuberose, honeyed resins, and dark cedar incense." I tried plugging the notes into Google and absolutely nothing comes up. Obviously plugging in the phrase "May I Give" brings up a lot of very irrelevant things, even if I add "perfume" or "BPAL" or any other company name to it. XD

Does anyone know where this blend comes from? And does anyone know where I can get more of it? It's fantastic.

But I can't remember who.

In any case: The majority of jobs (about two-thirds) are created by small young companies. "Kauffman's analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data [shows] that companies less than five years old created nearly two-thirds of net new jobs in 2007."

A quick bump!

My 13 November 2009 decant circle still has space! Half and full imps are available, and I placed the order at midnight. (People who already ordered: I'll be giving you totals shortly.)

Also, bumping my myriad other decant circles:
Peachy BPTP Yule: Space is still available in the Lunacy and bath oils and sprays, except for Holiday Stress Relief.
Villainess scrubs: I have room in Exsanguination Smack and Gloop Smooch!
BPAL Yuletide: I still have space in a number of bottles!
...and, my sale page, with lots of goodies up for grabs. I'm still looking to swap for lots of stuff, including many BPAL LEs and GCs, TALs, Possets, Fantasy Bath and Villainess.

As always, I'll happily combine shipping between and of my circles or sale/swap. Thanks everyone!

discussion: Kara and naming

  • Nov. 13th, 2009 at 9:17 PM
I don't know if anyone knows the answer to this (if there is an answer) but I'm curious: I was recently reading the two novels in the 'Queen & Country' series. (It started as a comic book series, then came the two novels, and it's currently in the early stages of being adapted for the screen.)

What's BSG got to do with this?

The lead character's name is Tara Chace (and she shares several characteristics with Starbuck).

The 'Queen & Country' series predates BSG by two years. People who were following BSG from the beginning: Did RDM ever talk about how the process of creating the character of Starbuck for the miniseries, after they decided to make Starbuck female? I'm curious to know if he was familiar with the comic book series and if the name Kara Thrace is an homage to the comic book character.

There'd be some seriously weird videos after that.

Decant Circle Updates!

  • Nov. 13th, 2009 at 4:49 PM
So I'm at work and my husband just called - my Trading Post package for my GC bath oils and massage oils circle has landed, no CnS! I'm sorry it took so long, guys - I've never had such a wait from BPTP before. But I'm ready to rock and these packages will start going out tomorrow. And hey...if anyone hasn't been completely decimated by updates and wants to hop on, these are the open spots (1-ounce decants):

Luxuria Bath Oil - 1
Invidia Bath Oil - 1
Frenum Bath Oil - 4
Patientia Bath Oil - 2

Aeris Massage Oil - 5
Aquae Massage Oil - 4
Terrae Massage Oil - 1

* * *

And while we're on the subect of BPTP, I still have these spots open for my Yule circle:

Ice Prince Bath Oil - 6
Proserpina Bath Oil - 6
Winter Maiden Bath Oil - 4
Holiday Stress Relief Bath Oil - 1

Snow White Atmo Spray - 1

* * *

No other news yet. A couple of the Yules are backordered, according to the Lab's announcements. I'll update all original entries as soon as I have any news to report!

And Happy Friday the 13th!!!!! That is all. : )

Music and BPAL

  • Nov. 13th, 2009 at 4:44 PM
Do you guys ever do BPAL associations/correspondences? I have a chart of all my BPAL perfumes, and sometimes I associate certain scents with songs, or movies -- I got a big bottle of Bitter Moon partly because it makes me think of "Volcano Girls" by Veruca Salt -- so I write it down, and whenever I get that song stuck in my head I know right where to turn. Anybody else do this?

A few of my other ones... Perversion = "Twist" by Goldfrapp; Freak Show = "Freak Show" by The Cure (duh); Ice Queen = "Alice Practice" by Crystal Castles

More advice?

  • Nov. 13th, 2009 at 1:40 PM
I know I have some bibliophiles on this list. I have about half a dozen old books. (Old meaning over 100 years.) They're not in great condition--given what I read on the web, I would say 'Good' at best. Recgnizable authors in some cases--Dumas, Scott, a collection of Greek mythology by Nathaniel Hawthorne--and I don't know if I should bother shopping them or just put them in the bin with everything else.
